| DEFORESTATION
IN COSTA RICA In this small country, the phenomenon of deforestation has created real havoc during the course of the last forty years. In 1950, 72 percent of Costa Rica was covered with trees. Today we are left with national parks and a few inaccessible forests. The government of Costa Rica declared a "STATE OF EMERGENCY" and at the same time founded the Decree of Implementation No. 17754-MIEN-MAG, a reforestation policy at the international level inviting investors from all countries to share in this program which guarantees 100 percent tax-free profits, has well as 100 percent exemption from property taxes. Moreover, capital gain is not taxed in Costa Rica. This policy applies to both foreigners and Costa Ricans. REFORESTATION: Costa Rica has become a world leader and model for applying a reforestation policy that has brought excellent results. Teakwood has become the new wave for worldwide investors. Long ago, Teakwood was the material of choice for castles and luxurious yachts. Today it is the most sought after precious wood for the fabrication of luxury furniture. |
